Our work is often supporting children and young people through big changes in their developing lives – addressing trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences early, in order to help migrate effects on their later life. With early years we can support early childhood development and those experiencing Global Developmental Delay or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

How we help
Music therapy is a psychological therapy which uses music to achieve non-musical goals. I provide an open and non-judgmental space where clients can explore different issues in their lives using music and without any pressure to talk. Through a variety of music interventions involving playing music together, listening to music, creating our own music with instruments and voice, client’s are supported by the therapist to express their feelings safely.
Every session is personalised to the needs of the client(s) and can include a range of music therapy interventions which involve playing client’s favourite songs together with the instruments I provide, listening to music, improvising music together and supporting clients to write their own music.
No musical experience is required and the young person does not need to have a strong connection to music to participate in music therapy.
Some examples of therapeutic goals in music therapy for teenagers and young adults would be;
- Processing trauma, grief and adverse childhood experiences,
- Reducing anxiety and depression,
- Improving communication and cognitive skills,
- Addressing issues that are preventing them from engaging fully with their family and support services,
- Improving confidence, comfort engaging in groups and reducing social isolation,
- Address specific behaviours affecting quality of life and mitigating challenging behaviour.
- Developing emotional self-regulation
We are always happy to have a chat if you think we could be of help to a child you support so please get in touch or submit a referral.
Children and young people may refer themselves but under 16s require written consent from their parent/guardian to participate in music therapy.
