Flute and Violin Tuition in Dunfermline/Dalgety Bay
We offer private music lessons from the comfort of your own home. Our tutor Fraser teaches flute, violin and saxophone to anyone from complete beginners to advanced players.
Effective and Methodical
Each lesson will have a similar structure and work towards goals set by the student and teacher. Lessons usually last 50 minutes which gives enough time to warm-up, focus on particular pieces of music, techniques, music theory, and setting goals for the student to aim for when practicing before the next lesson.
Music Tuition for Everyone
Violin students usually start with the Suzuki Method syllabus and Flute students start with Abracadabra Flute. Other resources can also be used to suit the learning needs of the student, such as starting with the FigureNotes system, or using music books that the student already owns.
Progressing
We encourage students to be the best musicians they can be. Goals will be set, but we do not believe you need to sit board exams (ABRSM/Trinity) to progress to playing at a professional standard or meeting university entry requirements. However, we can work towards board exams on request.
We can help students in high school through National 4&5, Higher and Advanced Higher music performance and theory exams.
Students will be given the option to learn traditional Scottish music alongside classical music.
Experienced and Qualified
Fraser has been taught a range of music styles from a young age. He won the Edinburgh District Rotary Young Musician of the Year award 2017 and studied music at the University of Aberdeen. He played in the university’s symphony and chamber orchestras, concert band and in the Early Music Ensemble. He also was the Director of the Elphinstone Fiddlers (now Universities Folk and Trad Society) for two years. He graduated with first class honours (BMus).

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you teach my 5 year old violin?
Yes, it is common to start learning violin as young as 4/5 years old with an appropriate sized instrument and a patient teacher.
Do you provide instruments?
Unfortunately we cannot currently loan instruments to students, but I can help you source a new or second-hand instrument.
What size of instrument should I buy my child?
Violins come in many sizes and should match the size of the player – this is usually calculated by measuring the length of the player’s arm. This is a helpful size chart.
Flutes do not come in many sizes. The standard ‘concert’ flute can often be played by an 8 year old. For younger children wanting to learn flute they could buy a flute with a curved headjoint or the smaller NUVO TooT or NUVO jFlute.
I live outside your listed teaching area, can you travel further?
Yes I can, but this may include an additional charge to cover travel expenses.
Do you teach students with Additional Support Needs?
Yes, we love working with all students and can adapt learning methods to suit any specific needs.
